September is here!

One of the things I am excited about this month is Kobina Ansah’s play entitled TRIBELESS. It will be staged on the 16th and 17th days of the month at the E.T.S. Drama Studio (University of Ghana, Legon). This is Kobina’s fifth play and given the trend he has set with the first four, my taste buds are wet with excitement about the forthcoming event.

Kobina shares the following as a synopsis of the play.

Four squatters are wound together by destiny – one tomboy of a trotro conductor, one rapper of a pickpocket, one sweet-voiced head porter and one dancing hawker. The going gets tough… and the tough must get going.

The four decide to use what they have to get what they want. Consequently, they form a music/dance group and called it TRIBELESS. Just when they’re about to hit the jackpot of a competition, conflict sets in within and without.

Will greed get in their way? Will TRIBELESS break apart? Will the love birds still hold on despite all the conflicts? We will find out in about three weeks, won’t we?

The play is a buffet of excitement, betrayal and greed. A potpourri of romance, fun, motivation, energy and comedy, he adds.

Kobina also tells me the play is about dreams. This is one thing I admire about him. Although his plays are comedic from start to finish, you will not miss the lessons in them. The scenes are vivid and relatable that they are etched in your mind months, and even years, after you have seen the play.

Tribeless will teach you to be a dreamer because every great dream begins with a dreamer. However, the goal is not for you to remain a dreamer so the play tells you to become an achiever. A dream doesn’t come through by magic. One must sweat, be determined and work hard. The scenes of the play will awaken you to the achievability of your dream. You will find that you the strength have within you, you will learn to nurture patience and the passion to reach for the stars and change your world.

The play is set to encourage you to stay true to yourself, yet always be open to learn. You cannot give up on your dreams, even when nobody else believes they can come true but you. Anyone who patronizes this play will leave knowing that the future belongs to those who believe in their dreams.

You cannot miss this. Save the date, make a date and find a date. The date is 16th or 17th of September. See you there.
