If you are reading this article, you are most likely doing the reading on a smartphone or a laptop. These gadgets and more, due to advancement of technology, occasionally require updates of the applications built in them to perform their functions without any hitch. We spend money on internet data to update them. In the same vein, it is essential that occasionally, as humans, we refresh and update our knowledge to be at par with the world.

Man is not the preserve of all knowledge, irrespective of how learned an individual is.

Traditional jobs and careers have evolved over the decade. Scores of careers have gone the way of the dinosaurs, with technological advancements. Machines have replaced humans. Now is the time to map out your career path since the traditional ones are going extinct; make yourself indispensable. New opportunities come when you learn, unlearn and relearn.

Managements of schools, hospitals, banks and other institutions organize seminars, in service training as well as annual professional development training to keep their professionals in trend. It is not due to excess of funds. They understand the principle of keeping their workers regularly oiled with knowledge.

As a people, we have short attention span. Therefore, if we do not learn constantly, we get out of touch with the demands and norms of the modern world. Do not wait for any individual or organization to help you learn. Be your own messiah. Save yourself from unemployment. 

Why Learning is Essential
  • You grow as a person. Maturity or growth is not about age, but the knowledge one has acquired.
  • You stay up to date with the ever-changing world.
  • Get access to new and different opportunities.
  • Learn influences the way you do things.
  • Gives you the avenue to meet new people, some of whom have similar interests. You get to build your network,, and enhance your social and work life.

As a writer, I always learn a thing or two from the works of other writers. Without my desire to learn, I would not have started writing, because I knew I was able, but lacked the skills. Learning is a treasured value every individual should hold in high esteem. It is often confused with schooling, where students are assessed based on their ability to Chew Pour Pass and Forget(CPPF).


Some things we learn are chaff. In our quest to acquire knowledge, we must be ready to click the undo button to delete the chaff, even if they brought us success in the past. Unlearn the archaic ways of doing things; the way you communicate your value, the designs you use, your vocabulary; and cling unto the new ways. Stay open.


It is at this stage that you fill all the dents with new knowledge. This way, you can connect the dots in your understanding of the ups and downs of climbing the professional ladder. Start from the basics if you must and be thirsty for knowledge.

Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Try new things, you will be surprised where they will lead you to. Discard the old rules, carve your own path. Learn something new today. The greatest power of all lies in the mind; feed your mind the essentials in all the right proportions.
